When I thought of the NAIDOC theme for 2023 ‘For Our Elders’, I just kept thinking of our ancestors. Our ancestors are our protectors of the land, culture, knowledge and dreamtime.
When I think of ancestors, I think of these spirits floating along the land protecting all they cross. The creature in the tree is an old dreamtime spirit I was taught. They disguise themselves among trees and I believe they are watching over us and reminding us of the connections we have to the land and our ancestors.
