STEVIE O’CHIN
Grinding Grooves

2021
acrylic on canvas
61 x 61cm

This painting represents the Little Rocky Creek grinding grooves near Landsborough.

This site is historically important to the Kubbi Kubbi people as it was used for generations.

This sandstone site was perfect for grinding tools such as axe heads, spearheads, and cutting stones.

When I recently visited this special place, I came across a baby turtle floating amongst the rocks surrounded by leaves and moss.

I saw the turtle as a sign and this inspired me to include it in this artwork.

The purple circles are berries that I saw running down the stream and the dots surrounding them represents the bubbles flowing throw the creek.
