Ceremony
2023
acrylic on canvas
121.5 x 40cm
This painting represents ceremonies that have
been practiced for tens of thousands of years. The
invasion of Australia was followed by an attempt
to wipe out Aboriginal culture, traditions, and
ceremonies however these things were protected by
ancestors and elders. Symbolism was used in this
painting to represent this, such as the lines going
across the canvas which are connected at the centre
in a way similar to DNA. This represents how a
ceremony tells a story and the generations that have
gone through those experiences. The colors used are
to symbolize the sacred land that hold ceremonial
value and the importance of protecting it like our
ancestors and elders have done
