BIRRUNGA WIRADYURI
Gulmarra Dhurin (Open Wound)
2019
acrylic on canvas
This one is about putting a face to the impact of the remains and belongings of our ancestors being removed, held in private collections or museums and need of repatriation.
These unresolved matters are like an open wound for Wiradyuri and for all Sovereign People. The purpose of this piece is to trigger the application of the agents of healing and humanity.
This is represented by the nodding blue lily, a flower that grows on Wiradyuri Country and whose sap is an antiseptic that can be applied to open wounds as a healing agent.
