BIRRUNGA WIRADYURI
Budhang Nguyaguyamilang Naruwin
Budhang is Wiradyuri for Black.
Nguyaguyamilang Naruwin translates as ‘Beautiful skin, fresh skin’.
The focus of this piece is to draw attention to the flawed prescriptive focus around skin colour as a marker, from a Eurocentric perspective, regarding the Indigeneity. We are, by nature, a diverse and dynamic group of cultural practises connected to the land and our spiritual connection.
The lightening of our skin as a result of colonisation does nothing to weaken our identity.
